Marathon Season 2 Launch and Seasonal Reset Overview
The online title Marathon will initiate Season 2, dubbed "Nightfall," on June 2, featuring its first-ever seasonal reset designed to provide all players with a clean slate. This reset aims to ensure equal footing for competitors while introducing new gameplay changes, improved rewards, and increased security presence by the UESC (United Earth Security Council) across Tau Ceti IV.
End of Season 1 Updates and Gameplay Adjustments
Leading up to the new season, the developers have released an update (1.0.9) scheduled for May 19 to enhance player experiences with several changes. Locked room keys will now consistently drop from Warden enemies, and map events such as Intercept, Lockdown, and Convoy will be guaranteed during runs. These modifications increase opportunities for better rewards and engagement on each mission.
In response to ongoing Runner activity, UESC forces are set to escalate their operations with increased dropship flyovers, new Warden encounters at fresh points of interest, and a mysterious new threat targeting areas like Dire Marsh and Perimeter. These changes aim to add challenge and realism within the game’s evolving environment.
Seasonal Reset and Retained Progression
The seasonal reset will wipe certain gameplay progress, including Runner level, Ranked level, faction upgrades, and in-game currencies such as credits, except for LUX and SILK currency balances which remain intact. Players will retain achievements, non-seasonal Codex progression, and earned cosmetic items like styles and titles, ensuring long-term accomplishments stay with them.
It is important to redeem any unclaimed gear, reward packages, or faction items before the reset as these will be cleared. Rewards passes, however, will carry over to the next season, allowing continued progression in that aspect.
Ranked Queue Closing and Rewards
Season 1’s conclusion will also mark the end of current rankings, and players will have their ranks reset for the start of Season 2. The highest rank achieved during the season will determine the cosmetic rewards, such as emblems and titles, that can be claimed through the Codex. These cosmetic titles are valid for an additional season beyond their earning.
Additional Gameplay Improvements
The update includes balance changes, notably to the Rook character’s Signal Mask ability, allowing longer effect duration while sprinting and a reduced detection range by AI. Changes to Key Templates will make them "Compromised" rather than fragile, eliminating key destruction during matches and encouraging a more aggressive playstyle.
Furthermore, Deluxe keys will now have expanded drop locations, including chances to find them in wall safes, adding variety to ways players acquire valuable loot.
Event Availability and Faction Progression
From May 21 through June 2, the Cryo Archive map will be accessible daily, with free Sponsored Kits provided to players to encourage participation. A Ranked version of Cryo Archive will be available from May 24 to May 28, requiring minimum Runner levels and loadout values for entry.
Faction experience gains will be increased until the season’s end to support players in advancing faction-related goals.
Sponsored Kits for Season 2
With the arrival of Season 2, CyberAcme will distribute Sponsored Kits to players based on their final Runner levels in Season 1. These kits vary by rank, with rewards stacking cumulatively from Enhanced to Superior tiers, recognizing players’ dedication throughout the previous season.
Overall, Marathon Season 2 promises fresh content, adjusted mechanics, and a seasonal reset to revitalize competition and engagement within its player community.
